Beaches (Pin These First)
1) Praia do Norte
Home of the big-wave show focused by the Nazaré Canyon. Watch from the lighthouse terraces above the peak. Surf here is for elite days only; never approach the waterline during large swells.
2) Praia da Nazaré (Praia da Vila)
The long town beach along the promenade—easy parking, restaurants, and the best all-round feel for families. Great base if you want a beach day with quick access to Sítio via funicular.
3) Praia do Sul
South of town and usually a touch calmer than Praia do Norte. Punchy beach-break when there’s swell; on smaller days it’s a good call for confident intermediates.
Viewpoints & Where to Watch
Lighthouse Terraces (Fort, Sítio headland)
Stand above the bowl under the headland for the classic angle of Praia do Norte. Arrive early on hyped swells; traffic control and long walks are normal. See Where to Watch Nazaré Big Waves (lighthouse viewpoints & parking) for safety and access.
Miradouro do Suberco (Sítio)
Panoramic overlook of the entire bay and town beach—perfect for orientation shots, sunset, and spotting wind/visibility before you commit to the lighthouse walk.
Getting Around (Pins You’ll Use)
- Funicular (Ascensor da Nazaré): links the promenade to Sítio in minutes—ideal if you arrived by bus and want to reach the viewpoints without a car.
- Parking: several car parks on the Sítio headland plus overflow areas further back. On XXL days, expect controlled access near the fort and plan to walk.
- Walkability: promenade ↔ funicular base is flat; Sítio is compact once you’re up top.
